←To Day 10                         ←←  Back  To Day 1  Days 11, 12, 13, 14 &15.               7 th -12 th August, 2024 Fort William → Edinburgh → South Korea Relatively sunny. 13 º – 17 º C On the 7 th , the weather held the rain off just long enough for me to pack up, then fell just as I was waiting for the bus into Fort William. From there, it was a straight forward train ride back to Edinburgh via Glasgow. I stayed back at Pollack Halls again. Once again, my Achilles was giving me hell and honestly, I suspect it will be for months to come. The last couple of days were spent just hanging out in Edinburgh. On the 8 th , I spent most of the day at the amazing (and free) National Museum of Scotland.  This is Dolly the Sheep.  The first cloned animal. A real mummy. Then that evening, I went to watch my one Fringe Festival show: Jenny ...

←To Day 9                          To Day 11> → Day 10.              6 th August, 2024 Fort William → Achnacarry → Spean Bridge → Fort William 50?Km Sun / rain / sun / rain AND sun / rain. 17ºC Today was so much fun! I was preparing for a boring day at the camp site, as I’m basically out of money. But talking to HaYoung, she reminded me this is a rare opportunity and to make the best of it. SO… I went into town and rented an e-bike. This was an e-MTB (electric mountain bike). It was incredible! Without even turning it on, it has 11 gears, but it was very heavy. Put it on Eco mode, and it gave a small boost to the peddling which was perfect for cruising VERY easily along flat ground and slight hills. Touring mode gave an extra boost for a little steeper hills on road. Then e-MTB mode was amazing for the hilly gravel forestry tracks. And finall...

Day 9. 5th August, 2024

←To Day 8                          To Day 10 → Day 9.                5 th August, 2024 Fort William → Glen Nevis Camp Ground Cloudy / rainy. 17 º C Today I basically spent the day walking around Fort William. Actually, walked is way too grand a word. I hobbled. Both feet are very sore because of blisters under each big toe but because of this and the way I was limping (can you limp with both legs?) the muscle running up the outside of my shin; you know, the one you didn’t even know you had because you’ve never given it a seconds thought? Yeah, that one. It was very sore and cramping. So I basically hobbled from shop to shop looking for a Harris Tweed wallet for myself (couldn’t find one I liked), a bag or wallet for HaYoung (couldn’t find one I thought she would like) and something for the kids (found something I thought they might like, but left it i...

←To Day 7                          To Day 9 → Day 8.              4 th August, 2024 Random camp site → Fort William (via Spean Bridge) 25.8km Cloudy with occasional showers. 14 º – 20 º C The Last Day Hiking! Today I woke up and did the usual battle with the midgies packing up my tent. Then I started walking. I honestly couldn’t decide if I wanted to do the full hike into Fort William or just drop down to Spean Bridge and catch the bus. Either way, I knew I wanted a coffee, so I headed for Spean Bridge. The hike out of the hills was about usual as far as bodily gripes went but once out of the hills, it was a LONG trudge along bitumen into town. My shoes hadn’t dried out from the past couple of days of rain, bog and wet grass, and so finally, on the last day, I started getting a blister under my big toe. To be honest, I can’t believe I las...
